When I think of such statements like "you can learn English through video games" or "online games imrove your English" I can't clearly imagine what people can choose this method instead of traditional ways, I mean books, TV, radio, newspapers etc.
People play video games a lot and they are playing more now due to current COVID-19 situation. Why? Because it is a great way to relax and have fun. Some researches show that the lengh of time people, both adults and teens/children, play is growing and it is about 6-7 hours weekly on average. Im my opinion video games can help in learning but not as much as books. People overvalue games just because they love to play. It's a sweet dream to learn while doing a 100% fun activity. Though there are positive sides of playing. I'd like to point out 2 genras of video games: story-based ones and online team-building games.
Okay, I think it's pretty clear with story games they are similar to books and movies. I'd like to pay attention to online games. There you can use voice chats and develop speaking skills which is more difficult to do outside of the English speaking countries. The main problem with some online games or I'd say with people who plays them is that players sometimes behave extremely rude. Imagine all the worst words in English and I'm sure you'll hear them playing online. Also there is one problem with the process of learning itself. All your language activity there is build around a very limited vocabulary and nobody will correct you.
In fact you can go straight to discord. There you can find lots of communities even for learning English. Or build your own group and ask people to join it. That won't be a hard task for you if you love playing. There are thousands players like you and many of them are trying to learn English too.
