Audio drama is a play for the radio or a play recorded as an alternative version of a book or movie. Many years ago audio dramas were very popular on the radio. People would sit around the radio together and listen to special programs at a certain time. It was like watching a movie but it involved more brain work, because to form a picture of what the action was about in a drama, listeners would use imagination. Now you hear about audio dramas much rarer but this is not the reason to forget this beautiful thing.
In simple words in audio dramas actors retell the story usually based on a book in vivid conversations. The best thing about listening to audio dramas is that you listen to many voices. Every character is voiced in dramas.
But this is not the only advantage over a regular audio book, in audio dramas you can hear sounds. Yes, studios that produce audio dramas create a full sound coverage. This means you can hear raindrops, a creaky sound when doors open, footsteps and others. Such aspect helps to follow the story and not get bored.
Where can I find more dramas?
Now, where can you listen to audio dramas? I use YouTube, simple as that. YouTube has everything. I love BBC dramas and if you think that they dramatize only childish stories I'd like to share with you this audio drama - Pet Sematary.
Audio dramas improve your learning productivity!
Great audio drama. It is scary, optimized in size, contains every important detail from the book plus music. Music helps to get that mysterious feeling, it's an extremely powerful tool and it works even better with audio dramas. The first part of the drama based on Stephen King's book is below.
If you are a learner keep a notepad with you, take notes, check the script for new words if possible and include this activity in your timetable. For a beginner it is hard to catch the whole meaning of a drama at the first time so you need to listen to it at least twice. For the first and second times listen to it while having a walk, exercising, meditating.
Audio dramas are a good choice to replace movies if you watch them to improve your language. With movies it'll take much longer, watch movies for fun, guys. And after audio dramas you can slowly shift into reading books, and reading books is the best and most productive way of learning English.
How to choose the right drama?
Now think about your favorite genres then find the record you like and click play. You can find lots of dramas on many sources. In fact, this kind not forgotten. It works pretty good for those who watched and read everything about their favorite stories, films, books and they want more. That's what happened to me when I discovered the magical world of audio dramas through Pet Sematary by Mr. S. King dramatized by BBC.
I hope you will find suitable genres for yourself. For me it is definitely the genre of horror and something mystic. I don't know why but it keeps me so focused even outside when I walk and all this noise car noise around, nah, it doesn't matter I am all in listening to great stories voiced by professional actors.
